Today's Teens Are the
Cell Phone Generation

Teens are the cell phone generation. Everywhere you look, there are teenagers on mobile phones constantly. Statistics show that about a third of the teens in the U.S. have cell phones. About 25% of the cellular usage is paid for by teenagers. So when your teen tells you she needs a cell phone, what are you going to say?

Pros to Having a Cell Phone

Teen talking on a cell phone. There are many good arguments for having a mobile phone. The benefits of carrying a phone far outweigh the disadvantages. With the alarming number of kidnappings and attacks that occur on a daily basis, it does not hurt to have constant contact with your teen.

If something should happen that you cannot contact your teen, many of these phones have tracking devices. This is a good thing to have to help find you daughter should she go missing. Cell phones

This is one way you can get in touch with your teen anytime. This goes both ways. She can also get in touch with you any time the need may arise. If you need to find out what she is doing, call and see. Cell phones allow teens to keep in touch with their friends as well as their family.

If you get a plan that has free calls between the same types of phones, you will save a lot of money. This plan allows people who have the same cellular carrier to talk unlimited minutes free. This is another of the rewards that phone companies are using to get you to purchase their product.

Rules for the Cell Phone

Before sending your teen off with this new gadget, you need to set a few ground rules. The phone should never be used while driving a car. This increases the risk of an accident. If extra minutes are used, she is responsible for paying for them. A cell phone should never be used in school. And she should not take people’s pictures if they ask her not to.

Inform her that abusing her phone, especially making harassing phone calls, can violate the law and have serious consequences.

Safety Advantages

If she should find herself in a situation that could have dire consequences, the best scenario would be to try to run or if possible call someone who she is pretty sure will be home and leave a message, even if she is unable to talk. Some great clues to the whereabouts of missing people have come from their cell phones.

This is not a subject that most people want to think about, much less talk about. But the fact is that the danger is out there. Cell phones can help to alleviate some of the worry you have about your child.
